To print a Facebook Messenger conversation, start with a download — Messenger has no print button in the app. For end-to-end encrypted chats, download your message storage data from Privacy & safety settings on a computer; for other conversations, Meta’s Accounts Center offers a general data-export route instead. Unzip the download to find the conversation’s JSON file, then either format the raw messages into a document yourself or build an instant keepsake from it and print the PDF.

Printing a Facebook Messenger conversation starts with getting the conversation somewhere printable. Messenger has no print button, so you begin with a download: for end-to-end encrypted chats, that’s the “message storage” download you request from your account settings on a computer; for other conversations, Meta’s Accounts Center offers a separate general data-export route (“Request a copy of your Messenger data”). Every printing route starts with one of those downloads.

Step 1: get the conversation off Messenger

For end-to-end encrypted chats, the route is the message storage download. On a computer, open Messenger and sign in to the account that owns the conversation. Go to your profile menu → Privacy & safety → End-to-end encrypted chats → Message storage → Download message storage data. Restore access with your PIN or a one-time code, tap Download file, then confirm with your Facebook password. Two caveats: the download is a computer-only flow, and Facebook can take several minutes to prepare the file before it’s ready.

If your conversation isn’t end-to-end encrypted, use Accounts Center’s Request a copy of your Messenger data (under Export your information) instead — Meta’s general data-export tool, and Story of Us’s importer reads the JSON shape that export produces too. Follow Accounts Center’s own on-screen instructions — its exact menu steps may vary by device — then look for your conversation’s .json file inside what it gives you.

Route A: print the raw conversation

Once the file is readable, you can copy the messages into a document or spreadsheet and print from there — the straightforward, fiddly route. It works, and you get the verbatim record: every message in order, with dates and timestamps. The tradeoff is that you’re printing from a JSON data file rather than a document, so expect some cleanup before it reads well — and a years-long history becomes a very long document with no story in it.

Route B: build a keepsake, then print it yourself

Which route should you pick?

Pick the raw print if you need the verbatim record — messages, dates, timestamps, everything in order. Pick the keepsake if you want something you would actually hand someone: the story in the messages rather than the messages themselves, printed the same day. Plenty of couples do both: read the keepsake together, keep the raw export filed away.
